One of the many reasons we love Austin is because of our music events and music culture.
Last night was the finale of Austin City Limits (ACL), one of the two largest live music events held in Austin each year. ACL draws crowds close to 75,000 to downtown Austin to hear some of the hottest band of today and yesterday. Oh, and this was not 75,000 people coming out because it was a free concert in the park. ACL tickets are not cheap. Just another business and cultural cornerstone in our fair city. This year, the Eagles closed out ACL this year in the park. It was a spectacular show by measure.
The other really enormous music event of the year is, of course, South by South West (SXSW). This event draws thousands of bands from all over the nation and all over the world now, too. Record labels come to SXSW to find their next big band and new sounds. When these bands grow up, they come back to Austin and appear at ACL. SXSW is also becoming known for it's endeavors in high tech development and movie production as well. SXSW and ACL are part of the reason why Austin is becoming known as the Live Music Capitol.
Our little city of 1.7M people is growing, and the world is taking notice.
